The Future of Food is Plant-Based

The world is increasingly looking for ways to address climate change and reduce our carbon footprint, be it through recycling or the use of electric cars. However, there’s another growing category that’s gaining popularity globally – plant-based food.

Sustainability experts advocate plant-based diet as a viable solution for a better environment as it relies on much less energy, land and water than animal-based foods and therefore produces lower greenhouse emissions. It’s also believed to improve life expectancy and reduces risk of chronic diseases.

Note: Plant-based diets focus on foods primarily from plants and includes not only fruits and vegetables, but also nuts, seeds, oils, whole grains, legumes and beans. It doesn’t mean that you are vegetarian or vegan and never eat meat or dairy. Rather, you are proportionately choosing more of your food from plant sources. (Source: Harvard Health Blog)

Of course, there is still an ongoing research and development on plant-based food especially in its health, sustainability credentials alongside innovative textures, tastes and appearance. Thus, not everyone would necessarily agree and convert to plant-based food or diet, and that’s perfectly okay. But if you are someone exploring and wants more meat substitute alternatives, keep reading to learn where you can get plant-based food (or something equivalent) from IPC Shopping Centre!

IKEA Swedish Restaurant

IKEA Malaysia restaurants now welcome a dish that features a whole new ball game: the Plant Ball, a meatball without the meat!

The plant ball has only 4% of the meatball’s climate footprint. With ingredients like pea protein, oats, apples and potatoes, IKEA has worked hard to recreate this iconic product to be a more sustainable option for the many meat lovers without compromising on the taste and the texture. Another good news? The new menu is offered at the same low-price along with many other plant-based dishes!

Swedish Bistro offers its popular soy ice cream and newly added vegetarian curry puff, whereas Swedish Café offers several vegetarian and plant-based menus. Some of these plant-based foods can also be purchased frozen from Swedish Restaurant or Swedish Food Market so you can enjoy them from the comfort of your home.
